The full-dome show, Carl Zeiss – Visions for the World, produced for Carl Zeiss by Munich-based agency visuarte - mediale erlebniswelten took home the intermedia-globe SILVER Award at the 2012 WorldMediaFestival. The 360 degree dome projection, which unfurls in all its glory in planetariums featuring full-dome systems, was honored with the award in the Corporate Films category. The award ceremony was held on 9 May 2012 in Hamburg.
The full-dome show was presented for the first time at the open house in Jena on 1 October 2011 to mark the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Carl Zeiss. "In a 10-minute show, the audience travels through fascinating worlds between micro and macro, to which the different business groups of Carl Zeiss AG belong," explains Wilfried Lang, Vice President of the Planetariums Business Unit at Carl Zeiss AG. "We are proud of this international honor for our full-dome show. Together with visuarte, we entered uncharted territory in corporate presentations," adds Lang.
From now on, visitors to the Zeiss planetarium in Jena can experience the full-dome show, Carl Zeiss – Visions for the World, which will be shown before the regular program. The exact times will be announced. The planetarium dome in Jena features the VELVET full-dome projection system from Carl Zeiss, which lays the foundation for outstanding full-dome quality – brilliant 360 degree projections with surround sound.
This project was a special challenge for the agency in Munich which specializes in movie productions and 3D media productions. "From the beginning, the trick was to connect the different areas of the company, to penetrate the complexity of the range of products and to make it something the audience can experience and understand," said Producer and Creative Director Florian Rothenberger from visuarte - mediale erlebniswelten. "The final product is a journey through the cosmos of Carl Zeiss that everyone can experience," he adds.
Another challenge was the new approach involved with the dome format. All content for the full-dome show was specially designed for the dome projection. Only a few photos originated in the real world. "This required a new way of storytelling and imagery, which affected all areas of production, including sound," says Director Melanie Müller-Ittstein, describing the complex production process.
The WorldMediaFestival was initiated in 2000 to promote the exchange of ideas and to inspire new creative solutions. Every year, the intermedia-globe Awards are presented on an international stage for outstanding solutions in corporate film, television, web, web TV and print productions.
