AALEN/Germany, 12.01.2008.
Carl Zeiss Vision is using new techniques for the refraction process and, with the aid of a newly developed algorithm, can now design lenses which correct defective vision more effectively than ever before. The name of the new technology: i.Scription®.

With i.Scription®, Carl Zeiss Vision is one of 5 finalists in the Large Company category for the 28th Innovation Award of German Industry, the world’s first innovation award which has been presented since 1980.

i.Scription® combines traditional subjective refraction with personalised wavefront measurement of the eye in order to produce lenses with considerably improved properties. A unique degree of precision is achieved: the wavefront measurement allows refraction with accuracy to the nearest one hundredth of a dioptre – 25 times more precise than the current measurement in steps of one quarter of a dioptre. The actual computation and production of the lenses are also performed to the nearest one hundredth of a dioptre. By taking this ultra-precise “fingerprint" of the eye, opticians can now offer their patients lenses with unique correction. i.Scription® therefore exceeds the limits of traditional refraction. These lenses enable a new experience in vision, and in many cases also lead to better sight in low light and night conditions.

As a finalist for the 28th Innovation Award of German Industry, Carl Zeiss Vision is joining a successful tradition of Carl Zeiss companies. Last year, Carl Zeiss was the winner in the Large Companies category with its Semiconductor Group (Carl Zeiss SMT AG) and additionally received the Decade Prize as the finalist who had submitted the most innovations in the past 10 years. The winners of the 28th Innovation Award will be announced on January 19, 2008.
